What's the deal? I always try to see the academy award nominations but I can't see these anywhere. I'm pissed. Birmingham is a pretty good sized city.

Huntsville is the nearest theatre showing them.

Anyone know why?

Whiplash and Birdman came out in November. I think Birdman was re released last week though.

Could you counts cry any more about showings in your town? Open your own goddamned theater or shut the frick up.

I think that you're somewhat overreacting.

i don't steal movies/music/tv, but i will say this limited release shite and the lack of availability really does just incentivize it

no idea why they won't VOD these movies when they have limited theatrical releases. i guess they feel VOD is for inferior movies

yea especially these limited release films that are getting tons of publicity. There's almost no excuse not to have them open wide

i really think it's just an arrogance thing

Hollywood knows most of these movies aren't going to be big winners. these are loss leaders for their citywide dick measuring contest

i guarantee you they think going VOD will tarnish the brand and hurt the movie's chances of winning an Oscar, which is so "old school" and arrogant

I may be wrong, but I think a few of these did go VOD

but I agree there is a certain arrogance to the film festival and limited release circuit

Totally agree with this. I would pay theater prices to watch Whiplash and Foxcatcher VOD (Birdman actually did come around here so I caught that one). Just make the damn things available.
