The IRS rejected the return and the reason given was because the filer was dead according to the Social Security Administration.

The problem is once the IRS figures out they screwed up, they'll come at the individual (or his estate) for the amount owed plus fees and interest.

He's 94. He can tell them to frick off

I filed late last year. My penalties and interest were $490.00. I called and waited 54 minutes on hold to talk to someone about paying it off monthly. Lady answers, is very nice, and says, "oh Mr Fiddy, we see here you've never been late before. If you can pay $27 today, we can forgive the rest."

Geaux for it. I'm sure they have someone in their workforce who knows what they're doing.

This is the prime example as to why less government is needed. The government is so fricking incompetent.

This is all the fault of the teabaggers for not giving the IRS enough funding.

fricking this... I have filed my 2004 state taxes 3 times (filed it correctly the first time and was due a refund). For some reason they think I didn't pay taxes that year and it just will not get out of the system... even after 11 years.

Oh man, if only the day ever came where the IRS thought I was dead.

It would truly be an amazing thing.

now how often does a story like this actually occur compared to the amount of people who dont have issues?

Come sit in my office for a day and try to accomplish something as simple as renewing a CDL. You'll learn that the majority of government employees, not all, are incompetent.
