Paige you're going to take this the wrong way, but anyhoo. He was feeding into your already inflated ego. He was telling you what you wanted to hear in hopes of getting you in bed again. Not saying you were bad in bed, just saying guys do that no matter if it was good sex or not.
Hell, I'm sure you've told a few white lies to get what you wanted out of someone else.
