Exactly what happened for my ah-ha moment around Thanksgiving. My daughter was with me on my weekend and needed to call a classmate for an assignment. I asked silly question if her mom had classmate's mom's number. Was clued in that everyone in her classes(6th grade) had a phone. At least all the girls she knew. So she got one for Xmas.

Middle school is a good time. For me personally I got one when I was about 13, its conveniant for when I have practice after schooll, or when I hang out with friends and need them to come pick me up. My parents are very absent minded. They'll forget that they were supposed to pick me up an hour ago very easily. So a simple reminder call always came in handy
