This happened at my local Costco here in Southern California. "Kim Stroud, director of the Ojai Raptor Center, said she offered to rescue the bird for $700, but the store declined the offer several times. The center is a nonprofit group that rescues and rehabilitates birds of prey and other wildlife."

No membership card, no care.

If Costco changes the rules for one hawk, it would have to do it for all of them.

A $700 offer from a "non profit" group ? Get the hawk out of there for free if you really genuinely care that much and aren't doing it for money ..

I believe it's the part where the non profit was trying to charge $700 to get 1 bird out and then tried to make the store look bad.

Seems the cost should've been far lower

I have to think 90% of the cost is driving to the store, which seems to have been done.

That hawk could have swooped down and stolen enough food samples to survive.

Guess you know that is one clean Costco.....no mice wandering around after store closed for the hawk to snack on

Non-profits need no operating capital, just heart.

And plenty of go fund me pages begging for money.

One of my ex's married some chick that has her own nonprofit religious dance troop organization. He quit his job to work for her (obviously he's working for free). They just had a kid and have a few go fund me pages asking for money so they can buy organic baby food from whole foods and so mom can take yoga classes so she can get back in shape and start dancing.

If I were to guess, it would be costs for the capture, transport, and rehabilitation.

I mean, LSU is a not-for-profit university. How ridiculous of them to charge tuition!
