I just learned these still exist. UNC is the only ACC team that has one. They play a 18-20 game schedule against DII teams 3 hours prior to UNC home games.

My dad went to UNC 1968-72 and he's talked about how big these games used to be. I think most teams had JV teams back then.

What other schools have one?

Freshmen weren't allowed to play until 1972, that's why.

Just read an article that says UNC is the only one of its kind.

Ohio State had JV teams that would beat their varsity back in the day.

Fun fact: Each JV player is assigned a Varsity player that he is required to complete all homework for

There were times when the JV would sell out and people would leave before the varsity game started.

There's a line in the movie Double Indemnity (1944) where the murder victim, who apparently played football at Stanford, says "I almost made the varsity my senior year".

What does this mean? Was "the varsity" the main team (Srs, Jrs, Sophs)? Is the line implying he only played on the freshman team?

Found out about this a couple of years ago while trying to figure hiw pistol pete didnt own every bball record. Well the 3pt line wasnt in yet so i did a guesstimate including his potential freshman #'s and the shite is cray-cray. Dude would have scored close to 5k pts without a single 3ptr!??

Think about that for a second. The Munster getting a tad lazy in recruiting?

Would loved for history to have been written differently. Pete's dad was the coach at Clemson while he was in high school. There's still stories being told in Clemson of Pete's days shooting around gyms in town. He played on the high school team while still in middle/junior high school.
