EAST

1. Atlanta 35-8
2. Washington 29-14
3. Toronto 27-15
4. Chicago 28-16
5. Cleveland 23-20
6. Milwaukee 21-21
7. Miami 18-24
8. Brooklyn 18-25
--
9. Charlotte 18-25
10. Detroit 17-26
11. Boston 14-26

Overall thoughts

-Atlanta has the 1 seed wrapped up

-Cleveland, with LBJ back, is now guaranteed a playoff spot

-Is Milwaukee guaranteed a playoff spot? I know they are playing decent ball, but they are only 4.5 games ahead of Detroit, for instance. The Parker injury, and the Sanders absence might sting, long-term. How long can they keep up the strong play?

-Is Miami a playoff team? I would have said no a couple weeks back, but the play of Whiteside seems to have re-energized them. Wade will seemingly take a bunch of games off over the 2nd half of the season. They are a huge question mark.

-I'm convinced that Brooklyn is not a playoff team.

-Charlotte will wiggle into the playoffs. They are one of the hottest teams in the league, and they play great defense.

-Similarly, it is hard to not envision Detroit in the playoffs, at this point. They are 12-3 w/o Josh Smith. If Jennings and Monroe can keep up their play, they should be in.

----
WEST

1. Golden State 34-6
2. Memphis 30-12
3. Portland 31-13
4. Dallas 30-13
5. LAC 29-14
6. Houston 29-14
7. San Antonio 27-17
8. Phoenix 26-18
-
9. Oklahoma City 22-20
10. New Orleans 21-21
11. Denver 18-24

overall thoughts

-Golden State has the 1 seed wrapped up.

-Can Portland totally slip out of the playoffs?
Aldridge's 6-8 week injury equates to 20-25 games. They are in big trouble if they are a 500 team (or below) during that span.

-Can D12's injury cause Houston to fall out of the playoffs? Can Harden sustain his level of play?

-Everyone (including myself) has been waiting for Phoenix to slip up, but they are playing great basketball. Can they leap a couple of spots?

-OKC has to make the playoffs, right? Who gets pushed out?

-New Orleans needs another year, IMO. They are on the outside looking in, and it looks like it will stay like that.

Any other thoughts?

Pretty much looking that way. With better coaching and consistent health I truly think they had the talent to make it in. But they've had neither.

Adding a SF and some more depth this offseason, and a coach that doesn't suck dong gets NOP in next year.

Atlanta has been SO good, but I wonder if they can keep it up. I'm a bit skeptical, but we will see.

Portland drops off without LMA, and I think they are the 5 seed when its all said and done.

It's gonna be a fun playoffs. The West may be even better than it has been, and the East is unpredictable this year. The top 5 seeds in the East all have legit shots imo to go to the Finals. Every matchup in the west will be fun to watch.

It will be interesting to see if SA makes the playoffs. You know OKC will crack the top 8, and the Suns are hot right now.

Haha really? As long as Leonard stays healthy they will be in the playoffs. If he's not then it will be interesting

I doubt it happens, but will be interesting to see if the Bulls and Cavs stay 4/5.

ATL, Chicago, and Cleveland all on one side of the Eastern Conference playoffs. You'd have Toronto vs. Washington for a trip to the ECF.

I just can't see it. The Bulls, IMO, are clearly the 2nd best team in the East. They have to get the 2 seed. Their defense, coaching, frontcourt, etc is too impressive.

They suck at home, so they are probably better off getting the 5 seed

Any chance the fighting Quinn Snyders can get on a role here and finish 3rd in the Northwest?

Portland is 18 games over .500 (31-13). Playing .500 ball over 24 games would leave them at 43-25, which is a .63 win %. For a team like OKC to catch them, they would have to go 20-4 over the next 24 games. Just not very likely. Portland will have a big collapse, like 8-16 or lower before they fall out completely.

They made a good point last on TNT, that the all-star break is in a couple of weeks. So he may not miss as many games as expected (the league has a week off). I do think they might drop out of the top 4 seeds. But that sets up for a great run to finish off the season..

Not really. We all pretty much agree at this point. Monty has sucked the fight out of us.

Sure.

Phoenix, the 8 seed, is only 5 GB of Portland. OKC is 8 GB. If Portland got to 43-25 (or worse), they might be a 6-7 seed, with teams nipping at their heels to get them out of contention. The only West playoff teams not at .630 are SA and PHX.

Clearly the 2nd best? Have you been living under a rock the past few weeks?
