I run Plex on a dedicated machine built for transcoding up to 5 streams of 10Mbps/1080p media at once and want to test drive XBMC. OS is Ubuntu 14.04 Server. What should I know before getting into this? I read somewhere that XBMC is great for streaming media like television shows and movies through channels rather than building a huge library, is this true? Any discussion is appreciated.

its true, ive been using it since this weekend. Add Genesis and it has every movie/tv show you could want. It can even sort by years. I watched star wars IV the other day in HD, it was the same as watching a downloaded HD version.

Add Genesis

It really is awesome. I've built my favorites up and it's so easy...easier to navigate than uverse on demand. You may have to try a frw different streams to get one to work, but it's pretty painless.

OP, I use XBMC/Kodi to run Plex on my firestick because the dedicated firestick app is pretty glitchy. The add-on is PleXBMC.

I agree. Genesis is my primary add on. I don't really use any of the others much.

Install the TVMC build of XBMC and it will have a bunch of the channels, including Genesis, loaded for you already.

Even better. I googled TVBMC this morning before posting this but couldn't find anything. Must be because I added a letter lol. Thanks.

How is Genesis legal? I just loaded it on my Fire Stick and it lets me watch American Sniper....

Obviously it isn't legal. That's why I haven't referred people to the official Kodi forum in all these threads; they forbid discussion of shite like this. Here's the blacklist of addons, Genesis among them:

Haha...that blacklist is everything that I love about xbmc. In my experience, that IS xbmc. I've been riding this platform for close to a year now...cable free

What about downloading through XBMC add-ons. Can I expect a letter from my ISP or is it anonymous? I currently pay $20 a month for Graboid with no legal implications over the last 4 years.
