Sounds like shite. Spend some money and built a nice one. When you do it right, it only hurts ONE time.

The approximate size I would like is something around 15'x20' maybe a tad smaller.

I used to have a grow room bigger than that.

You'll wish it were bigger down the road.

I might could go bigger...

I could build it myself as I've helped build one before. My problem is gonna come down to time. I'm loaded up at work and it would take me a few months to complete this.

I'm not sure on which route to go.

I would like to do a concrete slab and wooden frame with aluminum siding for exterior walls and roof.

Should I just call a general contractor and see what they would charge?

Just have a slab poured if you can't do it yourself and build a wooden framed building and side it with Hardy board, T1-11 or metal siding, whatever you can find cheapest. Framing a building is easy bro, YouTube it if you've never done it. And go bigger.

For the size you're wanting and your budget, you could have one delivered. It won't be on a slab but it will be complete and ready to wire. I bought a 14x24 for $4500 delivered, blocked and leveled. I spent $300 on lights and romex and a shite ton of outlets.

Like someone said, it will get real small real quick.

Not sure what that is. I'm referring to what they call a "portable building". They are wood framed with R panel exterior. I had no need for a roll up door so I got one with two windows and a 4' man door.

I built a 20x30 shop with a 12x30 lean to on the side.I went with Carolina Carports and its exactly what I was looking for.Mine is on a concrete slab with fiber in it instead of rebar. The concrete was $105/yd and I paid a guy to form it up.I think that was a dollar a foot and he supplied the boards and nails. The area where I put it is not level so it took some fill and a little more cocnrete. My building has one entry door under the lean to and a 9ft by 9ft rool up door.I went with plain ol beige panels and a galavalume roof. The walls are 9 ft and 11 at the pak of the roof.I have right at 10K in the whole thing.

I just built a 25x35 boat shed in Venice for $3800 in materials. Used limestone for the floor though. If I can do that down there I bet if u build yourself you can do easily for $2500.

this shows it roofed but not sheeted, so you can see the framing

I drew up some plans and calculated the cost and a 12x20 with me doing all the work and it was right at $2500 this was on a pier foundation. A 12x20 slab will run you about $600. The floor for mine is about $5500. So I would say yes you can build a 12x20 shed for under $3000 IF YOU do all the work yourself.
