Shingles is worse, IMHO (I have had both).
Especially because the neurological pain can last for months after the rash clears. I know my low back was excruciating for almost a year.

Yeah, I agree. The length of it makes it worse, but in terms of immediate pain, it doesn't compare.

I had shingles in high school. It hurt and was irritating but I don't remember it being excruciating like some in here are saying.

When you are young it's not as bad. For me as long as I didn't itch it it didn't really bother me
