Over the last few years, you notice that every person doing any job other than office work is wearing a safety vest now? Did that many people get run over before the use of safety vest?

Probably not but many companies and entities force contractors to wear PPE now due to insurance and "safety" reasons. Working for Conoco or P66, contractors have to wear protective gloves in the field at all times, even if you're out in the middle of nowhere taking a piss. It's a real PITA.

Have you noticed an increase in numbnuts on this board asking questions like "how do you get in the O&G field?"

Because of an increase in people like that.

That and the fricking Boy Scouts that take the "report every incident no matter how small" directives to heart.

Safety vests act as a force field to protect you from cars. Why wouldn't you wear one if not in the office?

I see plenty of people waiting for the bus or walking to work wearing them. Granted it is about 4:30am when it is happening.

If you put on a high-vis vest, you can walk into anywhere. Hard hat and safety goggles decrease your odds of being questioned. If questioned, have a technical response ready. People will leave you alone. Try it out some time.

Oh hell yeah, we need to get a group together, all decked out in vest, goggles and hard hats & see where we can go! Better yet, Tyvek suits and booties with a surgical mask!

Truth. I used to inspect subway tracks around NYC and platforms from the track level, getting into all kinds of restricted spaces. The project lasted 6 months, but I can count on 3 fingers the number of times anyone asked who we were, and only twice did we have to show ID, once to NYPD undercover cops.

It's a scary world out there.
