this has nothing to do with anything but I still find it odd...

since 1980 KC jones and doc rivers are the only black coaches to win the finals.

now look at the top teams this year...doc and Dwayne Casey are the only ones with contending teams.

I read the WSJ article as most of you apparently did not, and the writer's thesis is valid. Black head coaches in the NBA have a shorter leash, get fired more quickly, and have less of a chance of being re-hired

Maybe it's because it's much more likely a coach won't be good than will be good. And since there haven't been many black head coaches, it's much more likely their team won't be that good.

16 teams make the playoffs. And since most coaches are white, that means even crappy white coaches can achieve a playoff birth. Therefore white coaches have a more even spread of success.

Re: Monty the opposite is actually true. he's never been fired (1st job) and he's already been here longer that most head coaches stay, black or white

the hornets/pels I think have been incredibly patient with him, roster turmoil aside, and I'd hope he'd be the first to say he got more than a fair shake when it's time for him to go

and I think it's time for him to go

yes, probability of success has a lot to do with the number of participants...and recently the top has been dominated by the same few teams

much more research required here that I'm not going to do on a Sunday morning. I just did not expect the scarcity of winning black coaches to be so stark
