in the Rivals recruiting rankings. To me, that's all that counts (average points per player) as long as you can maintain that with a full or near-full allotment of signees.

Stars and points are great but until they're on the field it doesn't matter.

What I meant is that average points per player is the key indicator in recruiting rankings (for whatever recruiting rankings mean as a whole).

I look at that when I look at rankings.
It absolutely is an indication of class strength.

We would be even higher in average points per player if it were not for 2-star Ferguson who is a long snapper. And yet that position (skill) is worth a lot to a team.

Rivals caps specialists and FBs at 3 stars - and it's rare to even see a TE with a 5th star - there have only been 6 5* Rivals TEs since 2002.

And, LS are often listed as TE, FB or LB - position groups with lower overall stars to begin with. Ferguson is listed as a Center on Rivals, BTW.

No jokes aside here..........A long snapper is one of the most important positions nobody acknowledges.

One snap over the punter's head can cost the team a ball game. Two bad snaps can cost the team a season.
Also, low snaps can facilitate blocked punts.
