I bought the Razer Blackwidow Ultimate Mechanical keyboard about two years or so ago I would guess, and a couple of keys have started to go out, mainly my my 4 and R keys, which I use pretty constantly in MMO gaming.

Which type of mechanical switches do you guys typically suggest? The Blackwidow didn't specifically say, it says "Razer Switches." Which may be their own model.

I'm looking into a Corsair K70, or K95, but the k95 looks a tad out of my price range, and I very rarely use the extra buttons on the left of keyboard. I've heard great things from Corsair on their keyboard front, seem very reliable. I loved my Razer, but a lot of reviews say they didn't last, which is showing now.

Razer products, while nice when they work, are notorious for long term durability issues.

Corsair makes some high quality shite. You get what you pay for. After using your Blackwidow you'll be blown away by how solid the Corsair keyboards feel.

I think it's almost a stretch to call the Blackwidow a mechanical keyboard.

ETA: The only thing I don't like with Corsair right now is their gaming headsets. They're nothing special and they still have some work to do in this area, but then again that whole entire market has some work to do. Gaming headsets in general are overpriced horse shite.

Razer has also significantly went downhill over the last year+ according to most.

I totally agree with everything you've said. My Blackwidow was great.. but when my key only works 1/4 clicks, it's frustrating.

I use Turtle Beach for headsets, I have no complaints there, but I would probably go with Logitech/Razer for a headset raplacement. I haven't had issues with my TBs though.

I'm just trying to decide on Red/Brown switch. Not REALLY sure what the difference is. I've read a few things about it, but without trying them, it's hard to go by.

I have brown and they are great. I need the tactile feedback or I mash the keys until my fingers hurt.

Corsair K70
I've been rolling with this one for 14 months and love it compared to previous keyboards which were just the standard crap.

I'm a very spammy player, so I find myself mashing a button waiting for a spell or ability to come off cool down, I may look into the brown some.

I've read most places that the Cherry Red switches are desired by most gamers because if the amount of pressure it needs to push the keys. I'll read into it a tad bit more.

I'm leaning towards the K70 RGB (sp?), where you can customize the backlighting some.
