You need to change your title. Take out the Reserve component. The Natty Guard has always had Special Forces. You understand the difference between the Natty Guard and the Army Reserves right?

There's been one based in Birmingham for years. And another somewhere else, can't recall.

SF is under USASOC. The new SOD are under under SOCOM. I'm well aware of the difference between Guard and Reserve. I added Reserve to the title in error. Fixed now.

The Natty Guard SF groups are only recognized under SOCOM when Federally deployed. When attached to an active duty unit they are recognized under SOCOM. The article is not really 100% legit, but for people reading and not knowing the particulars it gets the point across.

Am I reading it wrong, or did they just basically stand up an augmentee/replacement unit?

You're right, that's what I read too.

Both Guard and Reserve have always had special operations components. Guard has always been more combat arms while Reserve is more civil affiars/medical SPECOPS.

This article says the NC Guard is getting SPECOPS capability.

I know the MS Guard has had a special ops unit for a while.
