Because of the perceived greatness marred by myriad turnovers. I don't think Brees has had that many turnovers, but this season they were fairly inopportune.

Brees has an interception rate equal to Joe Montana and Peyton Manning at 2.6%.
Favre is at 3.3%.
He has 29 interceptions in a season and 6 with more than 20
