My thoughts on "Blackish"

I did a quick search for a thread about Blackish and could find anything other than a comparison to Modern Family.
Now let me say, the first episode was really good. I laughed a lot. Now that it's into maybe the 8th or 9th(?) episode... I'm bailing.
It is the same uncomfortable rhetoric about "Dre's" family (mostly his son) not understanding the plight of today's black youth and unaware of the struggles that generations suffered before him.
Each episode just reaffirms that the agenda of the show is to satire a middle-upper class black framily that is better off that most Americans.
I can no longer subscribe to this tired excuse of social agenda insight being sold as comedy.
There is no way this show should be extended another season and I say that not from a "white perspective", but a consumer of television and advocate for quality writing.
That said, the writing isn't the problem... It's like the writers are doing a bang-up job trying to fit into the mold that the creator is trying to push down our throats.
What is the demographic that this show is meant to cater? It's certainly not black Americans and with all of this racial stereotypes vilifying white America, I can't imagine that anyone would continue to subscribe to this perverse rendition of "comedy" other than to be able to say, "Oh yeah, I watch 'blackish'... It's great!"
I'm done with it.

I like it. Their agenda doesn't bother me. The "white party" scene last night was fricking hilarious.

I refuse to watch these shows.

I don't let political beliefs, race issues or any other bullshite effect my tv watching. If it's funny, I'll watch it.

To me, this show is more about Dre WANTING their to be racism at every turn, but finding out he's the one with the problem a lot of the time.

The few "gems" of something that is objectively funny aren't worth the entirety of the premise which started to get exhausting.
I finished the most recent episode in protest... I wanted to turn it off halfway through... But when I hit stop on the DVR it asked me if I wanted to "save and keep" I said, "ehh.. I'll finish this episode and be done with it"

Exactly
And the fact that he's pissed he dealt with it but his kids don't have to. It's funny.

If your only take away is the most obvious, surface level premise, then you can continue to enjoy the hell out of it.
Comedy should be smarter than that...
Enjoy, but I'm done.

See ya then. My wife and I find it pretty funny. She's mixed. We haven't had a chance to watch last night's yet but last weeks episode started off with a killer opening scene. They are the play and Dre is being loud and his wife turns to him and says "Hush Dre...we aren't at the movies." I lost my stuff on that. Funny as hell.

I bet that line is funnier than anything on the show

Name of the show is stupid and sets it up to only be discussed in this manner. However, the show is pretty good. Best new network comedy in a while.

One of my favorite lines is from Pops in the "Crime and Punishment" episode:
"So what should I wear to the whupping? Black 'cause it's a somber occasion? White 'cause you're whupping virgin arse?"

I wonder more about people who take themselves and their choice of entertainment too seriously

Last nights episode was pretty good. Dre's constant attempts to show Jr. racism was incredible. The entire convience store scene was money. "Take as much as you want, it's free candy left over from Halloween." Then they get kicked out for Dre's boy licking the nacho cheese ladle.
Also, the last part of last nights episode surely pissed off some black folks. At the end Bow starts air quoting the word "doctor" when talking about MLK. She tells Dre something like, "all I'm saying is if you fall over having a heart attack I'm going to save your life, not some community organizer." Not a direct quote but it was something to that effect.

She didn't say community organizer she said some PHD, but yeah, I'm betting that pissed the black community off like no other.
If only they had gone into King's "discretions".
