Thinking about taking the family during Mardi Gras and can't decide to fly or drive. Thoughts?

Not bad if you're already in DC.

Driving from where, doofus?

About 20 hours or so. Scenery in Virginia is pretty nice though.

Made the drive from NOLA to DC 4 or 5 times and always enjoyed it. Lots of beautiful scenery in Tennessee and Virginia.

I'm sure the scenery is nice, but you're basically using two entire days of the trip to travel. If budget is an issue, you gotta do what you gotta do, but I wouldn't do it unless you wanted to see several things between here and DC.

I have drove it a few times from Knoxville. It's a miserable drive. I can't imagine tacking on the shittiness that is 59 through Mississippi and Bama on to it.

Virginia is a nightmare if you like to speed. Don't go over 4 mph over in that state, they will butt rape you on the ticket cost. Don't even attempt to fight it. They also ban radar detectors and have radar detector detectors to ticket you that way as well.

Why are you depriving your children from experiencing Mardi Gras?

I make that drive three times per year and back... well, to Richmond, not DC. With gas and pee stops you're talking 18 to 20 hours from Baton Rouge.

Go through Knoxville and I-81 rather than through Atlanta and Charlotte on I-85... the scenery is a lot more pleasant and you're a lot less likely to get bogged down in massive traffic jams.

Remember... getting there is half the fun!

I wish you'd get hit by a car.

Holy Gaucamole Batman! I agree with Rex

Scratch that... Rex agrees with me and who cares about scenery. It's all about efficiency to me

its not bad but don't take I-81 unless you like 18wheelers riding in the left lane.

Take I-10 to Jacksonville then 95 all the way north.

Knoxville and I-81 is the better scenery . Going the other way you have to go through Atlanta and Charlotte on the way up.

Then depending on the time you travel through you may get to enjoy the I-95 traffic on the way to DC.

Personally I would fly. Unless you have plans to stop and spend time at other places along the way..

I drove from 07676 to 77007 about 3 weeks ago. Went through Chattanooga. It honestly wasn't bad at all, but that's because there wasn't a cloud in the sky. You catch some weather and I imagine it would be awful.
