How come he don't want me, man?

That episode of Fresh Prince was just on. . .

That was such a brutal scene. Even as a little kid watching it I felt the gravity of Will's pain.

Wife changed it before that scene came home. Classic.

That one, and the scene where Will got shot and Carlton brought a loaded gun in. The feels

Will Smith had some damn fine performances on that show.
The father scene you're talking about is brutal.

I think I remember hearing he was being emotional from real life experiences as well.

That wasn't in the script, either. That was Will Smith, the person, not the actor. He did that sort of breaking down during the script b/c of his own real life issues, presumably his own relationship with his father.

Man I had completely forgot about that. All the feels in that scene.
And uncle Phil

What makes it so powerful is that it IS true emption. There is literally zero acting going on. Will's rage, loneliness, and pain is real. The concern on Uncle Phil's face is genuine as Will really looked up to him in real life as a mentor and father figure. The embrace of pure love and parenting was real. It is probably one of the most powerful scenes ever to appear on a tv sitcom.

Havent seen it in years, but i always remember his hat awkwardly falls off and Uncle Phil tells it to GTFO.

It was hard to watch that last part when something got in my eye.
That was such a great show. The last season was my Senior year of high school. It was one of my favorites and that is one of the unforgettable episodes.

I wasn't aware of this. Interesting.
Roaad, you should've just put up the thread with that title, no Fresh Prince reference and the crying emote and we could've made fun of anyone that didn't know what you were talking about.

Too bad he went crazy and ruined his legacy...

I must be the only one who laughs at that scene. I can't help it.
multi camera sitcoms that try to be serious, just make me cringe

Yes he does.
I actually have this episode recorded on my DVR. It came on a week or two ago.
You too........Lou.
And I always loved the look Uncle Phil gave him when he says "You a better man than me...you happy?"
Dude looked like he was legit about to murder ole Lou.

Apparently that's an urban legend.
From the link:
quote:
But in fact, Will’s dad was an active participant in his son’s life, and even encouraged him.
I told my parents I wanted to rap. They said, ‘Rap?’ My mother graduated from Carnegie Mellon. She thought college was the only way. My father could kind of see doing something differently. We agreed that I would take a year making music, and if it did not work out, I would go to college. That year we won the first Grammy given to a rap artist.
quote:
I was actually at the taping. The entire show was quiet, even during the funny parts, and I could not figure out why.
Before this scene, Will Smith disappeared.
He showed up, did this scene in one take, then disappeared again. You might notice his hat coming off. Usually, the director would retake the scene, but really, nothing could replace this moment.
People were crying for a long time when it was over, doing their best not to make noise before the director said “cut.”
I was ten years old. Will never, ever, forget.
So basically it just showed that Will Smiff was a great actor.
