Is this mostly a Georgia, South Carolina and Alabama stereotype? I ask because people have told me that I talk fast. Being born and raised in Baton Rouge, I know a good number of people that talk "fast". Most of my NOLA and even Mobile, AL friends talk similar to me or even faster.

Any ideas as to why this is?

a valid generalization.

I had a television producer from California call me yesterday and he talked so damned fast I had to ask him to repeat himself a couple of times.

Southerners do... but not as slow as West Texans. People from NOLA talk very VERY fast (breaks all the stereotypes).

Maybe it's generational? A lot of younger people talk faster IMO.

We (Southerners) speak at the cadence of a fifty caliber machine gun. The rest of the world speaks at the cadence of fifty caliber Gating Gun.

I'd rather be shot with the fifty caliber machine gun.

I find it depends on what area they are from. A lot of them talk fairly fast to me. Me being not from here, I find they talk too much.
