I am leaving out his 2007 stint as Alabama's DC because that is clearly Saban's baby. At LSU, he will have 100% control of the defense so lets look at his numbers when he had a similar role at Clemson. Also, this is more recent, so it is the best we've got to go on.

*TOP is important for a defense as it keeps them off the field, so I edited and included that.*

National Rankings per NCAA's statistics database:

2009 (TOP on offense was #105):

#25 Scoring Defense
#20 Total Defense
#7 Pass Defense
#21 Pass Efficiency Defense
#67 Rushing Defense
#12 Tackles for a Loss
#11 Turnovers Gained
#64 3rd Down Defense
#114 Red Zone Defense

2010 (TOP on offense was #82):

#13 Scoring Defense
#19 Total Defense
#22 Pass Defense
#27 Pass Efficiency Defense
#28 Rushing Defense
#10 Tackles for a Loss
#72 Turnovers Gained
#49 3rd Down Defense
#98 Red Zone Defense

2011 (TOP on offense was #107):

#81 Scoring Defense
#71 Total Defense
#50 Pass Defense
#74 Pass Efficiency Defense
#83 Rushing Defense
#86 Tackles for a Loss
#49 Turnovers Gained
#73 3rd Down Defense
#83 Red Zone Defense

He had a mediocre year, improved in year 2 to have good defense, and then one horrible, disaster year. The thing that scares me the most though is that Red Zone Defense and 3rd down defense is always really bad.

This was not with chopped liver talent. Clemson has talent and they play in a weak conference.

Take the numbers for what you will. Just wanted to share so people can be more informed about this hire.

If anyone has time, I'd love to see a yards and points per minute stat. We keep hearing about LSU's TOP offense helping out a defense. I'm wondering if it can be seen in the stats.

You can frick off because I'm not getting over it. "Getting over it" is how we drift back to permanent mediocrity. Demanding excellence as a fan base can't hurt our program.

It's a lousy hire. Obviously the only thing Miles cares about is who he has coached with and under not the results.

John Quincy Adams worked for his dad John Adams. But that didn't mean he followed in his footsteps as a great President. He was actually pretty mediocre to bad. Bobby Knights son learned from him. But he still sucked.

Horrible hire. No two ways about it.

Great point and I think that hurt him for sure.

Here are their TOP:

2009: #105

2010: #82

2011: #107

I definitely think he will be better at LSU for a lot of reasons, including this. Still could have done better.

This is exactly the point. Major fail on Miles, Alleva, TAF and Board of Trustees. But hey let's keep paying that clown of women's basketball coach 750K.

I never said anything about not going to games. That is just dumb. I will never stop going to games or sell my tickets.

I am not worried about the 2 recruits per year that randomly read TD.

Those first two years were better than just mediocre IMO. The red zone and 3rd down numbers are a concern though.

Your sandy vag attitude about it has never and will never make any tiny difference to the LSU program. Get over it.

I would like to know who his position coaches were at Clemson during his time there and were they any good.

Because at most schools DCs don't get to pick their assistants. You kind of go with what you are dealt. If you have shitty position coaches, your defense is gonna be shite too.

I doubt he had as good of position coaches as Orgeron and Raymond while at Clemson, but who knows?

I was just wondering if any Clemson fans could shed some light on his DB coach or DL coach while there.

You're right man, lets just forget about. Who really cares anyway? Lets just be happy we have a football team.

So what's the next step in your plan to "demand excellence"?

What a tool. Hope we lose you as a fan forever. Go bandwagon on someone else's team.

when you throw stats out there it ruins the pumpers argument of him only having 1 bad year (or only 1 bad game according to some)so they get upset.

The fact is this guy has been fired or demoted pretty much every time he's been given a shred of responsibility. But hey I'm sure this time will turn out differently

Coach O will be heavily involved in game planning, as will Raymond.

What is the redzone defense based on? Is it TD% or just scoring%?
