A while back I had an issue with my Surface Pro original charger shorting out. Called customer service, they shipped me a new one, free of charge.

Last night, I took my Surface Pro to the Microsoft store because the kickstand was broken. It was about a year and a half old, and out of warranty. They couldn't fix the kickstand in store, they just replaced the whole unit and gave me a brand new surface pro free of charge.

In general, I think that Microsoft is closing the gap on Apple quickly. My roommate has an Xbox and my surface pro will seamlessly work with the Xbox. I plan to get the Wireless Adapter soon and use the MiraCast on Win.8.1 + Miracast on my Nexus to stream from device to TV.

All in all, I think MSFT is doing the right things as far as device to device integration. I like that they're also including Android integration as well.

I'm e Windows and Android guy, so I like that we are finally seeing the stuff Apple has had for a while. I like the direction they are heading.

Well, one of Ballmer's initiatives before he left was to catch up with Apple in every space Apple is in.

As for Microsoft's direction, today we have:

Microsoft abruptly dumps public Patch Tuesday alerts

quote:

For the first time in a decade, Microsoft today did not give all customers advance warning of next week's upcoming Patch Tuesday slate. Instead, the company suddenly announced it is dropping the public service and limiting the alerts and information to customers who pay for premium support.
...
The change also applies to the occasional alerts that Microsoft issued when it gave customers a heads-up about an impending emergency patch. ANS will no longer provide public alerts for those "out-of-band" updates.

Security professionals torched Microsoft over the change.

"They've gone from free to fee, and for really no particular reason," said Andrew Storms, vice president of security services at New Context, a San Francisco-based security consultancy, in an interview. "It doesn't make sense."

I prefer using Windows based products due to the fact I'm a EE. Apple products are designed for people that are meant to be user friendly.

So you can stream content from a Mac/iPad to Xbox?

The only thing that scares me away from Microsoft gadgets is the rate at which they just flat out abandon products. The main products are always safe (OS, Office) but everything else from them seems like it can be here today, gone tomorrow.

The Surface Pro is a solid tablet though, and hopefully they stick around. I'm an iPad user, but competition is good for everybody.

You should try calling their enterprise support. By far the worst customer service in the business.
