Looked pretty interesting. Reminded me a darker "Dust" (it was PS+ a few months ago I think).

Yep. While the story and characters were incredibly stupid. It was a challenging 2D action game. It felt nothing like a Souls game, but I see some similarities in the mechanics of dodging, getting behind enemies, etc.

Well the story and characters sucked, and it wasn't really like souls in any way at all save a few mechanics

I was comparing Dust to this game, not Souls.
The reason why it doesn't feel like a Souls game is because the combat is fast and combo oriented. This is more strategy based and you don't have long attack combos. Game is still good and worth playing, but I didn't want you to go into it expecting a dark, eerie game.
