Probably get a lot of negative comments on the subject, but I've been doing it for 40 years and this weekend will probably be the last time.

Are you dying or are you running them on public land?

Weyerhauser is following suit in not allowing use of dogs, and they are our main lease provider. ROM and TL James already don't, and Kisatchie doesnt allow it anymore.

It does affect the still hunting (I understand why many hate it) but our lease was originally a dog hunting lease.

That sucks. I grew up doing it and loved it. Till I was about 12 I thought deer hunting was slinging gravel, CB radios and walker hounds.

Me too. Didn't kill near as many as hunters looking at a corn pile, but had alot of fun.

I'm hearing Weyerhauser may be backing off on that due to the push back. rabbit hunters are pissed to. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

screw them

they are planting over everything on our place right now. When we asked them about it (after they made rows, before they planted) they said we could have food plots but we would have to pay them $200/yr for each plot.. WTF

There's talk about meetings with them, but I don't expect any changes. No one can tell them what to do with their own land.

Did the same thing to us and wanting to charge a premium for pine plantations with newly planted cut overs. It's joke but I guess as long as people pay things will stay the same.

I was half way kidding with my above post. I've run deer with dogs before. Yes, it's fun.

What I didn't like was when a race started and they were on another tract we didn't have permission to hunt 10 minutes later. Most of the guys were still locked and loaded trying to "catch dogs", and they were joking about what they'd do if a buck jumped out.

As a private land owner who has people running dogs all around me it rubbed me the wrong way. I don't mind if I'm still hunting and dogs push a deer over me. Cool. What I do mind is 5 pickups parked on the highway with guys standing in the ditches between my fence and the black top waiting for a deer to exit my property and cross the road.

Unfortunately this is why it's about to be a thing of the past. There are some responsible hunters out there but unless you have a huge lease there is no way to keep the dogs on your property. I quit running dogs for deer a few years back and started rabbit hunting with beagles. My dogs stay on my property but due to this bs rule I'll have to wait later in the season to start hunting with my dogs or at least that's the way it's been explained to us.

Completely understand that, and I've been guilty of it. Just still would like to enjoy dog running with my Dad (72). He built a camp on our property in 1973 and loves it about as much as anyone I know. Would like to hunt with him the way he likes for his remaining time, but everything must come to an end.
At least we won't have to feed so many dogs all year.

3-4 good beagles and you can hear a good race and not deal with the bs. If working dogs is what y'all enjoy.
