I finally (several years later) got around to watching the prequel series to the 1st season and was staggered at how good it was versus my expectations.

Question: is it worth watching the next 2 seasons?

Yes! One of my favorite series. My favorite is actually the prequel season. Batiatus is one of my favorite characters ever. The story progresses nicely. Are you a fan of Arrow?

That's why I was asking. I really liked the backstory, but presumably all that is gone forever...

Hmm. Which one is that? Was he in the first 2 seasons?

I think he means the show "Arrow."

Yeah the show. It seems every character from Spartacus is joining Arrow. I think you'd like it.

Yes it's worth watching, although Blood and Sand and Gods of The Arena were definitely the best 2 seasons!....Some of the best 2 seasons I've ever watched to be honest.......In Vengeance the new actor Liam Mcintyre portraying Spartacus is not nearly as good as Andy Whitfield so there is a bit of a drop off there and lulls for the first half of that season, but the second of Vengeance and the last season War of The Damned are both plenty good enough to watch and enjoy.

Thanks! What I needed to know.

Yes! I finished last month. Very worth the watch.
Did you delay because of Andy passing away? I did for a couple months for some reason. But the new guy really picks it up and runs with it.

In my opinion the new guy fit the role that spartacus transitioned to as a leader better. If that makes sense.

Somewhat. Mostly I had a bunch of family stuff pop up that put it in the background and I just recently had a chance to catch up.

fricking yes!

My favorite thing about this series was how they talked. It's not so much the crude stuff but rather the broken English-Latin dialogue they use. It's so rare and really the first of its kind for time period shows and a refreshing departure from the usual modern day language that's spoken in nearly all of them which is ignorant on its face.

You'll not only love Vengeance, you'll also love war of the damned as well.

It took a few episodes to get used to the new Spartacus character but the new guy did it very well. Looking back he may have played the role as "leader of the rebels" better than the original would have. Vengeance was a great season. There are a ton of great fight scenes in the last two seasons.

I honestly didn't think 2 (pre) would be worth it, nor 3 or 4, but I was wrong each time. there's even an old thread from last fall where I was bitching about it not thinking it'd be good and everyone was saying "JUST WATCH IT!"

Do they do even more of those in the latter seasons? I fast-forward through a lot of them. Repetitive and boring, IMO.

I agree with the person who mentioned the language style. For some reason, I just like the way they do it.

War of the damned had actors that picked up the slack. Liam was a better spartacus playing general than he was in season 2

Coincidentally I just finished watching Season 1 and found out about Andy's cancer about half way through. For the rest of the episodes, I couldn't stop thinking about how cancer was setting up shop in his outwardly robust body and would devastate and ultimately kill him within a couple of years. It made a lot of lines unintentionally darkly ironic. Hell of a thing.

I thought the fight scenes in season 2 Vengeance were fantastic. The last season wasn't as good cuz the Roman story kind of sucked, but the rebels story was great. They did a good job and the last two seasons were def entertaining.
