I liked the empyrean a lot, I hear the newer one is very different but also great.

All of them. In my opinion, you should focus on Shadows Collide with People, Will to Death, Inside of Emptiness, and Curtains. Empyrean is definitely a good choice too.

ETA: DC EP is good. Letur Lefr and PBX have some great moments but some of it is pretty out there. I couldn't get into Outsides at all. Enclosure has a couple of songs I like but I couldn't really get into most of it. His latest few albums (mainly Outsides and Enclosure) are heavily electronic; the shite he's doing on them are way over my head musically.

Don't expect to just hear him shredding like he does with the Chili Peppers. It is mostly experimental electronic stuff.

I like all of his albums. One of my favorite artists. He has gone through different phases with his music. From garage-ish stuff (Niandra) to rock (Shadows, Will to Death, Inside of Emptiness, Empyrean) to softer rock (Curtains, To Record Water), to Electronic / Ambient(Sphere), to Electro-pop (Letur Lefru, PBX, Enclosure).

I think his most accessible work is Will to Death, Inside of Emptiness, and Shadows Collide with People.

Letur Lefru and DC EP are two really good EP's that he's done.

Not really. He has a few experimental albums, a few electronic, a few rock. Have you listened to them all?

I agree.

If you want to hear one of my favorites solos, listen to the song "Look On" on Inside of Emptiness. I can never get enough of it.

All of them

Not all of them, but most of them. I rank them:

The Empyrean
To Record Only Water for Ten Days
Curtains
Shadows Collide with People
PBX Funicular Intaglio Zone
DC EP
Inside of Emptiness
Letur Lefr
The Will to Death
Smile From the Streets You Hold
Niandra Lades
Usually Just A T-Shirt

He was also part of the project Ataxia. The first album was fantastic. The second was okay. A Sphere in the Heart of Silence was good, as well. That was the album that he made with Josh Klinghoffer, who replaced him in RHCP.

Do you have a copy of Wayne? It's basically about 8 minutes of him soloing. It's a tribute to Wayno, a chef that went on the road with RHCP and some other bands. John doesn't really like to solo that much, but Wayne loved it, so that's how he paid tribute.

The basis of the song was also used as a backing track for one of the songs on Medieval Chamber by Black Knights.

I actually have seen that before, but worth watching again. I like that John is more than willing to put his music out there for free. I think RHCP's label is constantly reporting him to you youtube.

Yessir. Which Black Knights song used it as a backing track? Can't believe I never noticed that.

ETA: found it. japanese edition.

I'm probably one of the biggest John Frusciante solo work fan's you'll come across. Some of his solo work is hard to get in to. For a new listener, I would suggest Shadows Collide with People, Curtains, Inside of Emptiness and To Record Only Water for 10 Days. My personal favorite album of all time is Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T-Shirt for what that's worth.

I admittedly haven't been able to get into his most recent albums, but still listen to a record or two every few days. Also, give Wayne a listen--an absolutely beautiful song he wrote for his friend who passed.

I love this album. It's truly a diamond in the rough. I wish he would reissue it on vinyl.

I really enjoyed Enclosure, but it is nice to know that this chapter / style ended with this album. It'll be interesting to see what he will do next.

I wish he would tour. I think he's only done a few solo shows, which was a bout 10 years ago. He's said he hates performing (by himself?) so who knows how likely it'll be that we ever get to see him play his solo stuff. If that day does come, I will definitely be in attendance.

I saw him play at the Angel Oresanz show in NYC in 2001. Just him and his guitar.

My relative has seen him a few times.- both solo and with Klinghoffer (I think it was Klinghoffer).

I wish I was at the ATP show about 8 years back. The whole concert is on YouTube and is so great.

Yeah. Enclosure was solid but I definitely have to be in a mood to listen to it.

To Record Only Water
Shadows Collide
Empyrean
Niandra

All 4 are really solid. Will to Death is up there as well.

I would pay insane amount of money to see him live.
