Just finished True Detective last week and wanted more of that style.

What else is out there that follows similar themes and is set in the same setting?

I'd prefer to stay in Louisiana actually and not stray too far away. Maybe Mississippi, but I still want that voodoo flavor.

I'm mostly interested in books but movies are definitely welcome.

You want supernatural, or suspense/detective?

Most of James Lee Burke's books are set here. Look for the Dave Robicheaux mysteries. If you want to do it in order, start with The Neon Rain. If not, start with In The Electric Mists With the Confederate Dead. Most of his books are very gritty but beautifully written.

After the first book most of the mysteries take place around New Iberia and Southern LA, not in NOLA.

All of this. Spot on.

One of his newer books is Wayfaring Stranger, set between Texas and Louisiana (and WWII Europe), centering around the oil business. It's not a Robichaux series novel, but it's fantastic.

Eve's Bayou is an underrated film.
