The few times I have seen them play, his offense is very basic. I don't understand the love he gets.

Got to do better than 9-4 and win the New Orleans Bowl. Beat the Power 5 conference teams on their schedule and finish undefeated or close to it, then he'll get a look see.

Thinking ULL might be his last stop.

Could he be an Offensive Coordinator at a Top 20 team?

Two knocks against him
No outright conference title
No power 5 victory
I'll think he will get a look at by a team like k-state

He coaches in the Sunbelt & hasn't won an outright title.
He doesn't have a win against the Power 5
He's never reached the 10 win mark

I thought after last year, he may have a shot at State but Mullens turned things around in his favor. He should try to get a coordinator spot in the Power 5, earn his stones there, couple that with his HC experience, & try & make the move from there. I don't think he's going to get a serious look as HC at ull, he needs to prove himself in the big show.

Didn't he beat K-State a few years ago in Lafayette or was that before he coached there?

I have a friend over in Lafayette that I was talking to recently about Hudspeth's situation. It seems he is very well liked over there and in addition to his contract he is getting some additional compensation from some folks over there that are big Cajun backers. I'm told it puts him in a low tier one compensation area. This may be why he hasn't expressed a big interest in leaving.
Don't know if true but it makes some sense.
Normally you would think a coach at a program like ULL would want to go in, get some wins and move on. Maybe he wants to be the Joe Paterno of ULL...who knows.

A signature win would be nice, but it seems like his lack of experience as an assistant at a higher level has hindered his advancement more.

Coaches like Darrell Hazell, Mike MacIntyre and Tim Beckman got P5 jobs with less of a head coaching track record than Hudspeth, but each were assistants at higher profile places longer.

No but it's funny how fast opinions change on coaches. Coaches go from geniuses to average in a year. Thats why they have to strike while the iron is hot I suppose. He needs to get some low level big 6 teams on the schedule and beat a few and he will be hot again.

he's making $1M per year with private contributions and incentives

has a newborn baby with other kids in elementary school , pretty sure he's financially comfortable

he could very well end up being ULL's "Larry Blakeney" - same program for 20 yrs

It won't if he can't improve. This was supposed to be his year to do one of the following.

Beat a P5 type opponent out of Ole Miss and Boise. (Boise might as well be considered being they are consistently better than a lot of teams that are in power 5's)

Win 10 games. Even if he lost those 2, the rest of the schedule was terrible. Got destroyed by LA Tech and App St at home.

Win the conference outright. Had an experienced team with talent and still couldn't do it when a terrible conference was the worst it's been since he's been there.

He's making a million per. Unless he can do 1 or 2 of those things and draw attention from a big fish, he's staying put.
