Why did "The Gambler" get such bad reviews?

I watched it last night and enjoyed it a lot. Mark Wahlberg did a hell of a job and the supporting cast was good to me. My only complaint was the severe lack of Brie Larson. Thoughts?

I haven't seen it, but the reviews have definitely scared me away.

Don't let them. I've found that the majority of the time critics don't know what the average viewer likes.

Yep I don't think it'll be there much longer though.

The average viewer is a Michael Bay fan. The average viewer loves Two and a Half Men. Critics destroy things made for the average viewer.

Did you actually read the reviews and see their arguments? The rating only tells a fraction of the story.

They were lobbying Goodman for his first Oscar nomination as well as Wahlberg for lead. How did they do?

Goodman is gold whenever he's on screen. I wouldn't be against him being nominated for Best Supporting Actor. This was definitely one of Wahlberg's best performances.

I've found that the majority of the time, critics know exactly what I like.

That's not saying a whole lot.

As if Michael Bay isn't worthy of being destroyed by critics.

I've never seen Two and a Half Men.

totes was being sarcastic i'm sure

michael bay is an interesting guy. he's hated on by critics for being michael bay. the bias is real

pain and gain was an enjoyable, funny, and energetic movie. bay did a great job and is a great guy to helm that movie

the critics hated it because it was made by michael bay and little else. any critic who gave a positive review to wolf of wall street and a negative review to pain and gain is a fricking hypocrite. they were the same story told in slightly different accents

Yeah. I agree with others. I usually find myself agreeing more with critics than viewers. However, every once in a while I will hate a movie that critics love. It's pretty rare that I love a movie that critics hate (except for comedies) though.

Goodman is one of my favorite actors. Recently, he was awesome in his small roles in Argo and Flight. The dude fills a role that very few actors can fill.

It is a remake. It was always going to be up against it with critics.
