Some spoilers.

Watched this one a couple nights ago after I saw SFP recommend it in the obscure movies thread.

It's a "found footage" movie about a family who is terrorized/taken by aliens while camping/vacationing on and around the Brown Mountain in North Carolina. It's VERY well done, especially for a found footage movie, which are sometimes sort of stupid.

I'd definitely echo SFP's recommendation, especially if you like sci-fi/alien type shite.

My main gripe is that they sort of give away the end of the movie in the first minute or so of the film (and also in the trailer, though it doesn't really matter too much), and while it doesn't really ruin anything, it still sort of sucks IMO. But it's a fun movie, and pretty legit creepy at times. Seems to be a relatively accurate portrayal of how I'd imagine something like that would go down.

I'd give it about an 8/10 or so.

Anybody else seen this one? Thoughts?

What do the reviews say? I thought it was pretty cool.

Not greatly acted really, but didn't have to be for something like this.

Never heard of this, but please you or someone go watch Extraterrestrial

Eta - Especially if you're a fan of Cabin in the Woods. I'm going to pimp this movie until I know someone besides myself has seen it

i think most of the negativity is just "found footage fatigue", of which i do not suffer for the most part

Yeah it's a good scene. I thought the barn scene was pretty well done too.

25% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes
23% audience score
4.8/10 on IMDB

What I think is weird is seeing the audience score actually lower than the critic's

I actually like found footage style so I will prob check it out

This is a good trailer without really spoiling things:
LINK

It's a "high up" B movie with some over the top acting (at times, but pretty solid acting all around), cheesy lines, and obvious cliches ala Cabin in the Woods, but the editing, score, special fx just make it really awesome.

when i was a kid i was all into reading books about alien abductions so that movie wasn't really scary to me

this basically sums up me showing that movie to people as a kid

There is a scene similar to FitS, and it's pretty well executed.

There were times when you question whether the kid would still be filming, but he's autistic and the camera is a way that he removes himself from things and feels more comfortable/safe, so it makes enough sense that he films so much.

i just completely ignore the requirement of suspension of disbelief with FF movies, b/c like i said earlier, i'm still on the pain train

That trailer looked pretty cool till the final scene. Anal probe is just played out.

The anal probe is insignificant when it comes to the actual movie, but it falls into the "cliche" category I previously mentioned.

On a side note:
A related trailer was for a movie called 'Exists'...looks like the same kind of movie but about Bigfoot. I'm about to watch it, will report back

Eta - This Enjecta movie looks pretty sweet as well. I really think Cabin in the Woods has opened a door of awesome and these movies are trying to one-up each other
