Looking at the trailer it appears in this one he is framed for his wife's murder and is on the run from the police while trying to take down the people who actually did it.

In fairness, the first kidnapping qualified as the "bad luck".
The subsequent events appear to be deliberate responses to him killing everybody and not just some random "shite happens" type of deal.

I bet his daughter gets kidnapped again in Taken 4.
Taken 5 his wife will reappear and he will learn that she faked her own death to avoid being kidnaped, she will get kidnapped soon after.

Didn't something at the end of Taken 1 insinuate that he arranged the kidnapping to give himself something to do? It just got out of control?
