I should preface this by saying that I wholeheartedly hate Texas as it is my duty as a Hog fan, but after the game last night I perused the UT boards and came away with the feeling that Strong's career arc is mirroring that of Rich Rodriguez, sans the D-II coaching stint.

Both had great tenures as coordinators.
Both led Big East programs to great success.
Both were hot commodities on the coaching market who turned down great SEC jobs (Bama, Tennessee).
Both left said programs for "destination" jobs and replaced coaches with a NC ring who'd worn out their welcomes.
Both walked into bad situations and were met with resistance from the start from fans, alumni and boosters.
Both had extremely rocky first years at these schools.

Strong is like a basketball player playing with 4 fouls right now because he wasn't their first choice to begin with. It's easy to change a program's culture and clean house when you're perceived to be a home run hire and greeted with a red carpet hero's welcome (Saban, Harbaugh), but it's a lot tougher when the perception is that you were a fallback hire and you're getting called out by boosters like Red McCombs before coaching a down.

I get the feeling that in the end, he'll have been the one who does the dirty work of cleaning house, fumigating the stench of Mack Brown from the program, and rebuilding the roster but that he won't be the one to see it through. I don't feel bad for him given his salary and the type of program Texas is, but I've definitely seen this movie before.

"I think the whole thing is a bit sideways," McCombs said of the selection process during an interview with ESPN 1250 San Antonio. "I don't have any doubt that Charlie is a fine coach. I think he would make a great position coach, maybe a coordinator.

Admittedly I only skimmed the posts but I kind of hope he is like Rich Rod. Doesn't work out at big bad Texas, Strong gets canned right when Spurrier retires, we get Strong, build on what Spurrier has already built and have as much success as Rich at Arizona and then surpass that.

Before all this Charlie Strong love gets flowing, he has never coached a great team. His clubs at UL were very sloppy, and playing in the ACC helped his cause. He will be gone within 3 years.

Meh, he's a good coach and a good program builder. UL was in the toilet after Kragthorpe, and he inherited a disastrous mess of a culture of entitlement from Mack Brown.

I think he'd be very good in the SEC, and would be a home run hire for South Carolina when the OBC hangs it up.

Overreactions and too early to tell. I think Strong is the right coach for UT but it'll take a couple years for him to get his players in his system.

The same will be true of Harbaugh. Don't be surprised when he doesn't win 10 games next season at UM. These things take time

I think Strong needs more time at Texas before he can be evaluated. I don't think many people realize how little of talent Texas has on its roster (especially on the offense) at this moment. There are maybe 2 UT starters that could start at Baylor (Brown and Diggs).

Bruh, I don't think you understand the shite show that mack left on Offense. You saw that last night right? Strong has nothing to work with. No QB and no O-Line. That's a recipe for disaster, no matter who the coach is. Honestly, it's a miracle we won 6 games this season
