I'm watching Tommy Boy right now and the opening scene is what inspired this thread.

For example, the opening scene where Tommy is chasing after the bus, the bus reads "Sandusky Middle School".

What are some other examples of this?

At the beginning of the Big Lebowski, the date on the check the Dude is writing is September 11, 1991, and the TV by the cash register is playing George H. Bush talking about going to war with Iraq.

911 allusions are very common. See Back to the Future, Matrix, Independence Day, and literally a hundred others. Clearly not a coincidence. It was a major cult date.

More coincidence than irony up in here.

I think it's ironic that in Blazing Saddles, Madeline Kahn sings "I'm Tired," and that the last line of the piece is "Let's face it. Everything below the waist is kaput." She died of Ovarian Cancer.

Also think it's ironic that Desmond Llewelyn's last scene as Q in The World is Not Enough is about his retirement before he disappears by sinking out of the shot . He was killed in a car crash that year.

During Chris' intervention in The Sopranos he lashes out at Tony and says he'll die at 50 from eating too much. James Gandolfini died at 50 from a heart attack.

quote:

“I’m gonna kill myself?” Christopher asks. “The way you f**kin’ eat, you’re gonna have a heart attack by the time you’re 50!”
