A fitbit is just going to throw out numbers at you and alot of them (steps, calories, etc) aren't even accurate.

They are a good tool to have some data to look at if you don't care how accurate it is, but if you want a piece of fitness equipment that can track accurate measurements, data points, etc. you're better off with a garmin forerunner unit.

I got the Microsoft Band. Pretty cool. Monitors heart, calories burned, steps...Syncs with my running and fitness apps. Shows text messages and phone calls

I've had the Microsoft Band since they first came out. LOVE it. Much better than a fitbit because of all the other functions. GPS function is cool for tracking hikes and bike rides or runs if you are a runner(you can look on the app and see exact map of ride with distance traveled, calories burned, pace, etc). I wear it everyday and love the fitness functions of it as well as the smartwatch type functions. Nice to be able to see a call coming in or a text when I may have my phone in my purse or not right next to me. I go to Starbucks a good bit as well so the Starbucks app on it that allows you to pay with the band is fun to use as well.

Someone game my 10 year old the Flex for Xmas. All he's been doing is checking how many steps he takes and hours he sleeps.

I think he told me he took something like 11,000 steps yesterday which was around 7 miles. whatever keeps him occupied.

It's def waterproof. I have to question the Calories burned feature. I can hump that bike at the club 30 minutes and bike says I burned 130 cals. I can walk the dog around the block with Fitbit and it says I burned 350 ?????

I researched this. If the activity doesn't involve "steps," then you have to enter the activity manually. This morning I did 50 minutes on the elliptical, but because my hands weren't always moving, it didn't pick it up. If you do the same workout on a regular basis, you can save the description and add it in pretty easily every time you do it.

My sister and her husband have had them for a while. They seem to like them. There was an article a while back about health insurance companies looking into giving premium discounts based on fitbit data collection. If you're comfortable with them having access to your information, which is another question entirely.

I got my wife one too. She wanted to know how much walking she does in a day. In addition to her time she's at the gym.
