Rib roast overrated or was mine just not cooked correctly?

Cooked a rib roast for the first time this Christmas. Did a nice rosemary rub and cooked it on 450 for the first part and finished it slow at 350.
It was good. Fairly tender. Good crust. Delicious fat.
But all in all, I think grilling a few ribeyes would have been a lot better and a lot easier.

I don't know about better or easier but for you it might have been preferable and for that it is certainly a personal preference.
Next time grill some nice, thick rib eyes and let us know.
Enjoy whatever you like my friend.

Roast is definitely different than steak. I cooked mine about the same way, but used just salt/pepper and finished at 325. It was yummy, and in a couple of days, it will be prime rib poboys. Decided to skip making soup this year.
Did you cook any potatoes? I peeled and cut up a large white potato, coated the pieces with olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic power, and rosemary, and added to the pan with about 45 minutes remaining on the roast. They came out excellent, browned on top but still tender and not at all soggy.

We roasted potatoes, carrots, mushrooms, onions, and celery under the roast. Now yes, that was good eats that I could have had with just a steak.
But the meat was underwhelming especially for 12.99 a pound.

Just depends what you're in the mood for.

If it was underwhelming then cooking it as a steak, other than a sear, it is just as underwhelming. Save some cash. Buy a chicken.
