This doesn't make sense to me with Gregg still playing.

2. STS9 Parts Ways With Bassist David "Murph" Murphy
This had been needing to be done a long time ago. Since, I've heard nothing but good things STS9 is doing.

Last year was a clear indicator that they were going to shake up their routine. It ended up being kinda cool. That being said, I wish they would go back to their old Halloween routine.

Anybody know why? This was the biggest shocker for me. Jeff Austin brought such a unique sound to the band. But both parties are still making good music.

Didn't see this coming but I'd much rather them play with Duane.

I didn't know this until now but I'm looking forward to them. Great live show as well.

really?

I thought this year's Halloween show was the most interesting thing Phish has done in over a decade

And I hope it's a sign of good things to come. I would much rather them do that than re-hash some dad rock album again.

Why does it have to be Dad rock?

I don't know, I'd be interesting in hearing their take on just about anything out of curiosity.

Listen first, judge later yerrme

It doesn't have to be, but in 3.0 it kind of has been pretty straight forward rock and roll sort of albums. I mean you can't do much with Exile on Main Street except rock out on blues and rock riffs. Not much room to experiment there, it's just gonna be rock and roll.

Sort of the same deal with Little Feat, with a bit more funk thrown in.

I don't expect them to take risks like Remain in Light anymore with an album, so them doing something so outside the box was pretty cool and unexpected. I enjoyed it.

What would be something similar to this year you'd like to see them do?

It was kind of cool not even knowing the original material really. Just something more groove oriented. Them using a lot of synths and electronics and samples and stuff was cool. Although I wouldn't want them to rely on that too much other than rare occasions.

I'd rather them do crazy shite like that than just cover a rock and roll album and just sort of play the songs.

The band ended because of Warren and Derek wanting out.

This really was great. Part of it was the unexpectedness - really who would have guessed they would cover some obscure collection of Halloween themed Disney sound effects? But the execution is what made it. Truly a fitting performance for All Hallows Eve - from the stage design to the song performances. "The Dogs", "Your Pet Cat" and especially "The Martian Monster" have being getting lots of replay from me.

i figured it was more Derek than Warren. Warren will be playing ABB tunes with Gregg throughout the year.

Even so, I just don't really get the point of it other than as a marketing scheme for their "last" tour. If Gregg's health holds up I doubt that's the last times ABB gets booked.

Hell, the grateful dead did their first farewell concert in '74

Warren and Derek have been wanting to mark their make with their own band. IMO, they only stayed on this long to fund Gregg's financial problems. Plus Gregg's health has been cancelling gigs around the globe.

They will play a few shows over the next few years on high profile events and make bank. And I will be there.

Maybe I'm just bitter bc Gregg's health cancelled the Beacon show in MSG in March that I had tix to. Wasn't able to come back for the reschedule.
