Say if your a WR in college and your jersey number is 1. In the NFL, having the jersey number 1 as a WR just doesn't seem right.

Anybody ever noticed this?

Because they won't allow it.

It's amazing that so many football fans don't realize the relatively simple rules behind football numbering and the difference between college and the NFL.

It's true. Like in college as a RB you could be number 5 but in the NFL it wouldn't seem right and it feels like you shoul be between 20-45. Maybe it's just me.

The NFL used to have very strict rules about jersey numbers. I think Lynn Swann was 22 in college but those numbers are reserved for backs, so he had to wear 88. Not sure if they have been changed or not.

Because the NFL has rules on jersey numbers

1-19 for kickers, punters, QBs
20-49 for RBs and DBs
40-49, 80-89 for TEs
10-19, 80-89 for WRs
50-79 for O-Line
50-79, 90-99 for DL
50-59, 90-99 for LBs

And WRs. For example, Maclin is 18, AJ Green is 18, etc.

It's not allowed in the NFL, you must wear the available #'s for the position you play.

ps - have you also noticed that two players can have the same # in college? just cant be on the field at the same time.
