I have been a cop for 25 years. I live modest and made that choice. For all you that chastise or criticize the job we are policemen do take a minute and think. Are cops perfect? NO! Do we make mistakes? Yes! Are there some bad cops? Yes! But the next time your feel we are dirty, prejudice, immoral or corrupt, handle your own issues. I say this to the 48% of your that pay my salary. The other 52% unfortunately are the persons that call cops to handle every issue in their lives. Every person I call for a service I pay for it. Bsnker, realtor, mechanic, etcetera. If you fear me tony call me. Handle you own issues. From Ferguson to New York I support your right to protest. Let me ask you how many protests, debates, news conferences, actors or politicians have stepped up a spoken on behalf of the slain officers family. Few if any. Next time you pick up that phone and ask for help consider what would happen if no one answered. We as cops are not perfect. But we deserve better than being gunned downed without a chance to defend ourselves. Make a joke if you want but two kids with no criminal record will never see their father again and not by their actions. RIP my brothers.

Agree. We shift the responsibilities to others and expect them to be perfect.

It is horrible what happened to those police officers.

That being said, so many police officers act in the wrong and are protected by a herd mentality of other officers. If I find an accountant doing something wrong, I turn his arse in with a quickness. When the police start identifying officers that are in the wrong and dealing with those issues, honest people will still have issue with the police.

I don't have to. I pay taxes for law enforcement to uphold the law and maintain public safety.

Someone would get fired? Their replacement would hopefully do their job better.

Nobody is making jokes. Your defensive and hostile response to criticism is unprofessional. Thanks for your service though.

The lack of personal responsibility and morals is the to blame for much of our issues.

Only one side of this equation is being asked to change. That is never going to work.

Why is this addressed to Liberals?

Why not Libertarians, which a healthy percentage of this board claims to be? They are the ones that don't want you.

Let me tell you why your entire rant SUCKS:

You decided to go the political/expedient route and get your predictable cheering section in short order, blessing you hypocritically, not for your work, but for the stupid thread title that calls out Liberals.

Congratulations.

It's bigger than liberal/conservative, my man.

It is entirely possible to respect the hell out of cops while simultaneously expecting they be held to a higher standard than those they seek to protect us from.

I don't believe he's complaining about that. His target is the irrational invective coming from mostly leftist protests.

Eh. Some cops are just pissed that they don't get a hagiography from everyone.

Nah, I suspect they'd be satisfied with a little rational thinking about the recent events rather then all be painted as racist murderers.

Well the two in your title have, to say the least.

This is a terrible tragedy for those officers, their families, their friends and colleagues, and our national dialogue.

It hasn't, however, bought police officers the right to escape public scrutiny. Officers in this country are trained, sworn, and armed at the public's expense, and given the awesome responsibility of enforcing the law, maintaining the peace, and protecting the innocent among a population of nominally free people. It is an enormous task. I appreciate that no one is perfect, and that none of us is perfect at his job. But when you or your fellow officers "make mistakes", it could very well mean depriving a citizen of his rights, his property, or his life.

No society that a self-described "conservative" would want to live in will take those mistakes lightly.

It's not something to take lightly.

Being more active in identifying and disciplining the bad ones, as opposed to forming a shield to protect them, would go a long way towards mending this distrust between regular joes and cops.

Imagine the worst shitbags you ever met.
Al Sharpton type people.
Pederasts, Scientologists, people who enjoy disco, heroin-addict hookers...
Then imagine them sitting at a computer lecturing you on how much you suck.
That's essentially how this thread will turn out.

One of the ironies is that some of the very people that fight so hard not to be stereotyped are the first to stereotype police officers.

Thank you and stay safe
