One was a live show from 2003 and one was new studio material. Not comparable.

I really have no clue, because I'm over 40 years old and my biggest touchstone in the jamband community are my old touring bros who still take a week off work and fly out for $10,000+ Phish runs on occasion.... but are the biscuits actually really big now, or does TD have a disproportionate number of Bisco fans?

the only thing making tDB even in this discussion is that passion some people have to go all in on someone not so mainstream. it's appealing because it is different. Not trying to knock tDB because they are Great musicians no doubt. But on a level playing field, they just can't compete.

Honestly, i don't think tDB will never reach Phish's level. History, stats, accolades, and the majority say so.

I was waiting for that terrible argument.

They've never played nearby since I first heard them. But if they come to town I will check them out for sure.

I've seen them a few times back in the late 90s into the 2000s. One of my friends was super into them. At that point, they weren't even at the same level as Phish. They were a novelty because they did the jamtronica shite (this was prior to STS9). They then got sort of surpassed by STS9 who went to greater extremes in jamtronica, and I'm guessing, Biscuits went more traditional jamband.

shite.. I don't know. 3rd whiskey for the night.

It's cool breaux. I don't have the energy to argue this shite anymore. One band plays songs. The other takes you through journeys of space and time and actually type 2 jams. They're different bands. not for everybody. I will give this to danman though, trey consistently does have better tone in his guitar. Keith urban has a damn fine tone as well

i've pretty much said this from the beginning. but for another band to reach the fame and success as Phish in the jam scene will be tough. For any band

This is true. The electronica scene has surpassed the jamband scene.

My job has me working with high school aged kids on the daily. The kids with tie dye and hemp necklaces that I used to be into jambands are now into electronic music. They'll still wear some Grateful Dead shirts because they're cool, but they don't know shite about the Dead. It may come back around, but the live jamband scene peaked a while back and has been replaced with electronic music.

I should add another major point of difference:

Back in the day, I could spot a kid with a grateful dead shirt on, and I could start talking to him about the Beatniks, Clockwork Orange, Terence McKenna, Miles Davis, and various sub-cultural touchstones. The kids these days don't have a freaking clue. I'll think they're cool countercultural kids who have some knowledge about the world, and they're all like, "Hey bro, got some molly?"

Maybe I'm just living in a nostalgic delusion, but I swear we were smarter than these kids.

Thanks for your contribution to this thread. It's nice to get some insight from a witness.

who's to blame? The parents or the society built by the parents?

sts9 got more teeny bopper fans if that's what you mean.

They always build up but never seem to peak. And don't get me wrong hunter is a phenomenal guitar player lol
