I am glad for him and Merry Early Christmas to his agent. Aleva must be the biggest succor in the world to negotiate with. All you have to do is start a rumor of another job opportunity ( take your pick- Michigan, Ar-Kansas, A&M ) and he will break the checkbook out.

You really are stupid.

Yea this isn't really a raise guys, just an extension

Made 1.30 mil this year and will be making $1.333 mil the next 3 years (on average). So he got 3 more years and a $33k raise

OP really needs to edit the misleading thread title or provide a source confirming that Chavis has "agreed" to extension. As of now, it doesn't look like anything has been confirmed as signed or agreed to.

LSU has offered Chavis a new contract with an extension, but it has not been signed, sources said.

Kirby Smart has a buyout of under $100,000. LSU wants Chief's buyout set a 1 million dollars (really?) Also the offer restricts taking a head coaching job or a pro job which most contracts allow.
Additionally, the three years is not guaranteed.
The terms are not on par with his peers which in a free market society only allows for competition for services.

8 posts, and all seemingly reference a deep familiarity with the staff's contracts as well as an affinity for Chief.

Whomever you are, I heard Alleva has tried to balm the issues that may be out there from before. You saying Chief still ain't happy?

This is what I was thinking. He's not really getting paid any more money, just an extension.

That link is quoting Derek Ponamsky, who has not said that. This is what Derek said:

quote:

Sources tell me that LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis has a new three year $4m deal to stay at LSU.

Nothing in there says "agreed to" or "signed." Chavis has an offer on his desk.

I find it very strange if all the stipulations in the contract that are being stated are in fact true and are quite worrisome to me as to Alleva's confidence in several things.

Fact is that no one knows for sure until LSU states it is signed. If Chavis signed it, LSU will immediately come out and state so. Until then, it is just speculation.

If they aren't willing to at least give Chavis a legitimate raise and instead are putting more limitations on him than others at his position are getting, then Alleva is truly a complete moron, and I wouldn't blame Chavis if he chose to leave.
