It's basically guitar hero, but you use your actual guitar. I got it on the steam sale.

I think it's the best learning tool I've been bought for guitar. And it's a shitload of fun with a huge amount of DLC songs.

I'd recommend it to any guitarist out there from beginners to experts.

Will any electric guitar work on it?

I'm planning on grabbing it just to have something to get me playing more.

Yes. Including bass guitar. It has a cable the plugs into the input jack on your guitar then into your computer.

It also has a rhythm mode, lead mode, and bass mode.

Its great. You can learn a ton of songs and they also have "session mode" where you can just add in instruments and they "smart play with you". SO you can set the pace and the tone and the scale and the bass and drums will play with you. It's fantastic.

I'm wondering if it will work with my acoustic. It has a decent LR Baggs pickup in it.

I don't know. Google the product info.

I only have acoustic guitars, so I am also wondering the same thing.

Amazon has the console versions with the cable on sale for $40. Steam is obviously the better deal, but half price still isnt bad.

Bump this thread when you get it.

I should've mentioned you should get it for PC.

In order to l use it with the 360 or xbone you need a special aka original audio cable otherwise the audio doesn't line up right with the video but it's a simple fix

I do. Mainly rhythm in a shitty little garage band with my buddies, but I'll play lead as well. Rocksmith a fantastic learning tool and it's alot of fun. Keeps you wanting to learn.

And my biggest problem is I'll learn a riff or chorus and stop learning the rest of the song. But rocksmith makes you motivated to learn the whole thing.

I'd strongly recommend it. If you get it on steam you'll need to get the cable separately. I already had the original for xbox so no big deal for me.

Yeah. I'm curious about the acoustic as well. I'm about to buy my eldest son a guitar and guitar lessons for Christmas.

We've been debating whether we want to go acoustic or electric. The purist in me wants him to learn acoustic first, but he's probably enjoy electric more. And being able to use Rocksmith might tip the scales toward electric....

The music school doesn't really care whether he does acoustic or electric.

It should work with any guitar with a pick up and an input jack. It has a calibration part in the beginning so it should work with any pickup and it balances the tone really well.

If I had rocksmith as a kid I'd have been thrilled.

One of my favorite parts is that it changes the tone of your guitar to match the tone of the song. So you can go from playing walk this way to last Dance with Mary Jane to toxicity without messing with a pedal board or gain on your amp

That's pretty awesome.

He is doing an orientation at the school right after the New Year, and they're going to make their recommendation on instrument (he has some developmental delays, so this is music therapy as well). Anyway, I will definitely be figuring this into the equation for our final decision (plus.. hell... I might use it some).

Electric guitar is good for young kids.

Acoustics are bigger and harder to play. I learned on my dad's acoustic and bled on that fret board alot. But you build the calluses and it all turns out alright. Easier to learn on an acoustic though.

The big debate, right now, is whether he's better off going with drums or a stringed instrument. He absolutely wants to do a stringed instrument and wants to "rock out." But his fine motor skills are crap due to his developmental issues, so hand drums are a better fit.

That being said, stringed instruments could really help him develop his fine motor dexterity.

I would never sway anyone away form guitar. He can create his own style and his own way to play. You never know. His style could be the next big thing. If he wants to pay guitar then buy him one and support him.
