Ai...no...in a million plus years we would have seen them...this hasn't happened simply because there is none

Why....because God doesn't play like this.....our technology will run itself dry at some point....we will never travel to another inhabitable planet, ever, nor will another to ours

Everything possible is conceivable in this universe. Technology and space travel progress are proceeding exponentially now and will only condense the time needed for human exploration of other worlds. The so called "Singularity" is basically technology progressing to a level of critical mass. It greatly shortens our conception of time.

How crazy would it be if we were the most advanced civilization in the universe? Like, there could possibly be millions or billions out there....but there has to be one that comes first.

There's a good chance we are. We aren't the first, but it's a good chance we are the only advanced civilization out there.

And the topic in the OP is straight out of Battlestar Galactica!

I agree we are probably the most advanced. Probably not the first civilization or the last. And if we were to ever experience "aliens" they wouldn't be the grays we are used to on TV. It would be some nano bots or something similar.

The Earth is a dynamic planet that could only produce advanced life 4.5 billion years into its existence. Other planets are as old or much older or much younger.

They would have entirely different conditions that could bring about intelligent life or erase it from ever beginning.

Imagine that species arising then dying off in a few million years, and imagine that length of time across 4 billion years. It makes sense why we don't see any signs of intelligent life.

You do realize that is very feasibly within our lifetime, right?

Let's say we keep on advancing at this rate and don't annihilate each other/aren't destroyed by our machines. We will eventually figure out matter replication, and that invention alone will destroy the conventional economy as we know it. Money would be useless once we can create anything on our own, not to mention the ability to build our own worlds within the Singularity. Once we become that advanced, the only economy really would be increasing our knowledge as a species, since no one would starve anymore and have roughly everything they want and need. The 3D printer is a scary enough economic game changer, just imagine when we can turn anything into food?

Not if we merge with our machines. Even shortly after Singularity, there will be many things only humans are still truly capable of and it would not be in their best interest for at least quite some time to kill us. If we merge with them, that should save us from destruction since we will then be on an equal playing field with them. I do however see some sort of inevitable war between machines/enhanced humans and the ones who refuse to upgrade. I just don't think at that point in our existence we would put up with violent and uncompromising beliefs that hold us back as a species, Islam being the biggest issue.

You have a very sad POV for our species. Let me guess, like every single zealot in the last 2000 years, you think you're in the end of days and that it's going to be YOUR generation that is raptured? Please. Our radio waves have only travelled 200 light years, and after say 80 they become scattered and are difficult to decipher, to where we may even now be constantly bombarded with subtle alien signals but we don't have a clue about it. And for a visual representation on at most a species would only know about us if they were in this tiny yellow dot:

And that doesn't even includes hundreds of billions of other galaxies. It's laughable that you think the lack of physical evidence of other intelligent life is conclusive evidence for lack of life throughout the cosmos, despite the fact that their existence is a near mathematical certainty.

It's obvious we come from robots and are just trying to make new robot babies.

All about the Fermi Paradox, baby! Humanity as we know it here on Earth just hasn't run into the Great Filter yet. Once we hit that mother fricker, and we will, it will all be over with.

The mathematical ignorance to assume that such an extremely unlikely anomaly has taken place isn't as bad as the arrogance in believing we are the most advanced beings in the Cosmos. i don't think people realize how vast and expansive just our solar system is...

literally billions of galaxies. billions. with a B.
I can't even wrap my head around how big "space" could be.
