LSU 10 Notre Dame 7, memories from 1985, odd game

Newspaper summary below but some odd facts from that game some of you under 30's may not know.
Ronnie Lewis the starting kicker had become the "jordan Jefferson" in fans minds due to his inconsistency including missing a 25 fg to beat Bama at home, off a tee! He also once gave the finger to the student section. After Lewis missed two fg's In the midst of this game punter Matt Defrank took over and made one short FG and the extra point
The players had a snowball fight and held their walk through in the stadium parking lot. Not sure how many LSU fans were there (I was) but we had a blast and the ND fans looked at our sections like we were crazy (if the shoe fits)
Dalton Hilliard had a very rare late fumble that almost cost us the game.
Jeff Wickersham had one of his best games as LSU used short passes throughout. Steve Rehage, after getting beat on ND one score saved the game with a late int from QB Beurline. Even though it was not a great ND team, Tigers were underdogs in Vegas.
Love to hear others memories who were there, my blood alcohol level was quite high in second half, it was very cold.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Quarterback Jeff Wickersham has been the target of criticism, but nobody could complain about his performance Saturday in leading Louisiana State to a 10-7 victory over Notre Dame.
"It doesn't matter what others say about me," said Wickersham, who completed 31 of 42 attempts for 294 yards and set up the winning touchdown by Garry James on a two-yard run with 3:26 left to play.
"As long as I believe in myself and the team believes in me, then I feel I can get the job done."
Wickersham's 31 completions were the most in one game against a Notre Dame team.
Notre Dame Coach Gerry Faust, whose five-year contract ends this season with next Saturday's game at Miami, Fla., was on the hot seat again as the Irish (5-5) suffered their first loss at home this season.

I don't remember much about the game, other than we won and it was televised on WGN.

My Dad, a devout Catholic boy, had wanted to go there as a kid but of course could not afford it.
But make no mistake, he was an LSU fan. He went to the 1970 game and loved it. Could not wait to take my brother and I there.
I remember it was smack dab in the middle of miles of farmland. And it was cold. My feet nearly froze off.
It was a good time to play ND. They were floundering near the end of Jerry Faust's tenure and were not very good.
We were significantly better, and outplayed them badly that day, but had to settle for too many field goals and as you mentioned, missed to many of them.
But it was great to go there with my Dad and brother. Great memories.

Word!! Your Mom was on the trip too. We stayed in Chicago, I think she stayed in Chi-Town to shop while we went to the game.

I just remember the awesome Wendell Davis catch in that game. I was drinking a lot though.

I was there with family on vacation. Sat on those crappy 2x6 bleacher seats. what a dumpy stadium. Those were the days of the Dalton and James gang. Did not experience the Notre Dame "mystique" but it was a nice trip.

The game was on the USA Network. That was back when that channel was trying to compete w/ ESPN by showing NCAA FB & basketball.
That ND team was mediocre but so was LSU. The Tigers finished 9-2-1 but its strength of schedule was very weak. Only 3 opponents finished w/ winning records. 1 was Florida who beat LSU 20-0 in B.R. A respectable Bama squad managed a last-minute tie. The Tigers were vocal about their displeasure in playing in the Liberty Bowl & it showed. The only pts they scored was a punt return despite having multiple players who had long NFL careers.

That was a strange team.Odd feeling 9-1-1 team.Great defense, but even with Hilliard,James and Davis, the offense sputtered a lot.Lots of close games that shouldn't have been close.
Had two more games after that Tulane and East Carolina, of all teams.

Baylor...one of the worst bowl performances in LSU history. Could've played in the Bluebonnet Bowl in Houston but Bob wanted the slightly higher payout. The players didn't want to play and the fans didn't want to go. Freezing cold. Wasn't near as close as the score indicated.
