Hipsters like to ascribe to conspiracies to make themselves appear more anti-establishment or edgy. They just come off as unempowered and posturing.

These are sometimes classical educated persons, it speaks poorly of the institutions they represent as to their lack of rational thought.

My conspiracy theory thought process is always guided by "Three pirates can keep a secret if two of them are dead." (How many people can keep that value of a secret for the rest of their lives) as well as what the monetary or societal or moral value of the secret would be if it got out.

tl/dr: The simpliest explanation is most often the true explanation.

There are no bigger conspiracy kooks than those who believe this crap. And if you fall for this outlandish conspiracy theory, you'll fall for ANYTHING!
