Along with firefighters and security guards

Police officers, firefighters and security guards have the highest rates of obesity of all professions, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of data from the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.

According to the Journal, 40.7% of police, firefighters and security guards are obese. Other jobs with high obesity rates include clergy, engineers and truckers.

On the other side of the obesity scale is a grouping of economists, scientists and psychologists, with an obesity rate of 14.2%. Other professions with low obesity rates are athletes, actors and reporters.

Surprised firefighters are included. I haven't seen many fat firefighters ever. Police officers are a different story.

Guess the study never accounted for offshore personnel.

I would tend to believe that study is based on the very dated bmi rating. I must admit there are a number of fat cops but every fire department I know of requires firefighters to exercise at least one hour per day when on duty. Most lift weights and are likely above the bmi index rating not because they are fat but because they carry considerable muscle mass.

Truck drivers are easily the fattest of the fat. I drove cross country for one year and I swear that everytime I stopped for fuel or food the truck stops were overrun by 350+ lbs lardasses mouthbreating all over the buffets in their unwashed sweatpants. Literally some of the most disgusting people I had to share buildings with.

Do cops even have mandated PT?

Im sure at the federal level there is some. But doubt it at the city or country levels.

They don't. BMI has nothing to do with it. Most cops are just lardasses.

This is the 3rd time they've done this study this week. They must be collecting some fat overtime checks

I know several firefighters who look like they take too many fire engine rides to Donut Hole.

There are no Fatties at the local Firestation near my house. They keep busy and we often see them running or practicing on the training site right behind the station.

made my sons day (I mean it was cheap plastic, but my three year old didnt know the difference)

hats off to them
