Not only does Hickenpooper revise history (there was a time when the vast majority of children were educated by private bodies), but he basically says that homeschooling is invalid because parents are not good at educating children.

I fear that one day we will be like Europe where homeschooling is illegal and subject to extreme jail time.

Shame on you Hickenpooper, for your government worship. Shame on you for looking down on parents, individuals, and private markets for schooling.

Education is not an area I would point to as validation if I were attempting to extol the virtues of government. It can work but it at times fails in grand fashion.

Guess he thinks Haverford School for boys and Wesleyan University did a shitty job educating him.

For Hickenpooper and fellow liberals, they think it is perfectly fine that rich white kids with english last names can access quality private schooling, and that poor colored kids get shitty government schooling run by bureaucrats.

Michigan has a good point. Poor kids go to inferior schools run by School Boards who send their kids to Private schools. Maybe if the elite sent their kids to these schools and pumped some money into them we would have better schools. But... the school boards don't give a damn because it's only a pay check, not their kids and only poor folks involved.

hen I was a sophomore in High school, my English teacher said she sent her little nimrod to a private school because she didn;t like the High School where she taught. I said you take enough money out o the school system. Obnoxious kid

Pumping more money into education is not the solution. Not hard to find brand new schools with all the latest and greatest teaching devices still failing.

If education were privatized, poor kids would get shitty private schooling instead.

How are teachers salaries in Louisiana? New jersey totally out of whack so the teachers union sucks the school systems dry.

They'd have some choice as to where to send their children. Plus, I have no doubt that "shitty" private schooling for the poor would be infinitely better than "shitty" public schooling for the poor.

Maybe we should concentrate on improving the public schools. Wonder how many Board of Education big shots send their kids to public schools. Should be a requirement

Indeed. An abundance of money is not needed to provide quality education.

The two biggest solutions to improving our education system:

1. Getting parents and families to give a frick.

2. Hiring and retaining legitimately qualified teachers who give a frick.

The problem lies in implementing those two solutions. As someone who's been in the classroom, I have plenty of ideas for solution #2, but solution #1 is a whole different story that I'm concerned will never happen.

I don't know Jeaux. Only time I've lived in Louisiana is when I attended LSU.

$51K a year

I counted us to have the 27th highest salary. So below the mean and median, but still pretty good considering we are at the bottom in terms of personal median income Census data

So, I think it is difficult to argue that teachers aren't paid enough in LA. They probably need to be paid better but to mean that means paying the better teachers more and firing the poor teachers.

Education is one of those things where you get out of it what you put in to it. If the kids (and by extension, their parents) aren't putting in the work, the education won't do much.

Very sad Hickenlooper survived the purge. He's as two-faced as they come.

With no government many kids couldn't afford school in the private sector.

This probably would not be the case.
