I stumbled across both of these recent articles. Is Northern Illinois a darkhorse candidate for potential Big 12 expansion? Both articles seem to suggest that Northern Illinois is up to something on their end with the planned major expansion of their stadium and athletic facilites. How crazy of a move would this be? I personally feel like they are looking to CUSA or AAC.

The writing is on the wall for the lower level bowl teams, get into a P5 conference or get left out. The P5 teams will break away in the near future.

No question about it. I think the real question becomes, is it going to be four 16 team Superconferences or five? Conference realignment is now effecting the mid majors. Get in line or get left behind.

I think it has to be 5. Too many would get left out at 4. Then the playoff will be 8 teams, 5 champs and 3 at large.

Literally every other sport they have would get bent over in any other conference. I know football sparks the move, but they cannot afford the increased costs for travel on other sports with CUSA or AAC money.
