know they are young but Payton is in the midst of AR'ish rookie year.

I'm not someone who wishes we got Payton instead of Jrue. However, it's not fair to post just his shooting stats which is the worst aspect of his game. He's averaging 4.8 assists per game, has a 2.2 assist to TO ratio and is playing solid defense. His shooting has been horrendous (everyone knew it would be) but he's done okay in the other areas for a rookie coming off the bench.

That doesn't absolve him of blame though. It seemed like he got the players he targeted last summer. He didn't swing and miss then move on to plan B.

So that means he put together a roster of ill-fitting parts with little to no shooting. If he had to "win now," there were still other avenues available.

So you're comfortable labeling payton and noel as NBA role players 30 games into their rookie years?

I am. I base it off of their college careers and well-established weaknesses on the offensive side of the court.

You don't think that's an absurd statement to make at this juncture?

I don't. That is my expectation of them and there is nothing absurd about it.

I've been watching this gif all morning. I can't figure out why he did that. Did he think someone was behind him to contest the layup? I need answers.

It's possible he didn't have a good handle on the ball when he tried to go up.

The AR comparison was dramatic... and a bad one because he has a lot more to offer than AR I will give you that. My point is we'd be a long way off from contending because these guys still need a lot of time to develop.

there were other options but Jrue was the best at the time. I'm not talking about the Tyreke signing.

I like Jrue, especially his defensive abilities. The price was still a bit steep for a guy with one All-Star appearance, don't you think?

Yea it ended up being steep.

Had we made the playoffs last year or even been like a phoenix and just missed, this trade would be looked at much differently.

I'm still happy with where this team is. They have young talented players still learning to play together. It's not as hopeless as some make it out to be.

I said he was overrated here. I never said he was bad. And his assist/to ratio is still sub-2 to go with 32% behind the arc. He's a very slightly above average guard making $14M per. I still don't want that.
