I've got an older Bushnell Yardage Pro rangefinder. I keep it in a box with my other hunting electronics without a battery in it (9V). I just pulled it to let my nephew use it for a deer hunt, put a new battery in it, and the damn thing doesn't work. WTF? How can it break sitting in a box?

Any ideas on what to check? Already checked the battery, >9 volts.

Is the battery upside down?

Is the battery brand new? Multimeter it?

I have one too. I have had this problem as well. I have good news and bad news.

The good news is, it may be that the contact prongs have just bent back. That happens when the battery falls down the slot with force. Remove battery. Using a flat head screwdriver, gently pull back on the two contacts and bend them forward some.

The bad news. After doing this a few times over the years, mine just stopped working completely.

Just before reading your post, I put the battery back in and it came on briefly. Gonna try your method. Thanks.

And yes, I checked the battery with a multi-meter.

No problem. It's at least 12 years old, but barely gets used.

I have one use it as a back up, never had any problem with it. Great tip for me though from Alxtiger! Just in case! Thanks!

I thought about, but I hate that damn tingling sensation. Got out the meter.

I don't think it's the prongs. I can barely get the damn things off the battery. Really tight.
