Mary will never grow one day older than she was in Christmas Vacation. She will forever be young.

He didn't throw up. Just yakking on a bone. My English Bulldog makes that sound all the time too but nothing ever comes up.

I don't disagree. Great thread. However, if you read page 25 and 26, you'll notice that we have started critiquing other John Hughes movies because they are as badly unrealistic as Home Alone.

I don't really think so. Everything everyone has said here is really part of the joke. The turkey looks delicious on the outside, but is horrible on the inside? Russ is a foot shorter than he was before? Why are people terrified of a squirrel in the house? That's the joke! It's not as if there is gross neglect and abuse that is simply ignored in order to make Kevin the cutest and sweetest little thing.

And by the way, Rubbie Sue and Rocky were in National Lampoons vacation, and the older children that befriend Russ and Audrey are addressed, with Vicki being in the clinic getting cured off the wild turkey, and Dale is preparing for his career in carnival.

Why didn't they leave the cat in the box and just poke holes in it?

I really hope Dale gets that job guessing weight, it would be a nice promotion.

I do have to say there's one thing that is worth analyzing: how did Eddie find Clark's boss?

He says it's at the end of some street (forget name) with all the other rich people. Perhaps he kicked in a few doors until he found the guy with the correct name.

The part that gets me is when Clark rides that sled-thing at extremely high rates of speed. The speed and time of the ride would indicate that he was miles and miles away from where he started, yet Eddie and family were able to see him crash.

I think he was being a bit sarcastic when he said Melody Lane, although that would be funny if he actually lived on Melody Lane.

During his "where the tylenol" rant, Clark mentions that he lives on Melody Lane with all the other rich people. It's also conceivable that he looked up Shirley's address prior to his departure. Considering Eddie coasted into town on fumes, the tenement on wheels really got some quality gas mileage.

"Sure does."

Why would Hughes gives us a very, very veiled glimpse of Ellen's tits rather than just show her topless?

You must not have seen Vacation.
Or, you just mean, in this movie specifically, which I fully support.
They are real...and spectacular.

If they are in Chicago, how are they able to take a day trip to the mountains to find a Christmas tree?

This one is a bit of a stretch, but it is plausible.

After some extensive research, I discovered that the highest point of elevation in the state of Wisconsin is Timms Hill at approximately 2,000 feet. According to Google Maps, it's a 5 and a half hour drive from Chicago to Ogema, WI.

If the Griswalds left around 8 or 9 in the morning, they could have arrived at the park/forest by 2 in the afternoon. After walking through the woods and digging up the tree, you figure that they would be back on the road by about 5 at the earliest. After another 5+ hours in the car they could have arrived back in Chicago at around 10 or 11 in the evening.

You're right. The more I think about it the less it makes sense.

What was Mary's background? She wasn't married. Surely she didn't work in the department store full-time. Was she back from college for the holidays and working to make a few extra dollars? Single mother working a 2nd job to put her kid in day care? She was damn strong lingerie salesman, and had Russ not interrupted the demonstration, I know Clark would have dumped more of that bonus check on some of the merchandise Mary was selling.

By the way, that bitch was so not wearing any underwear (not that there's anything wrong with that).

That young Russ, is why you can't see the lines.

I always had a problem with that part as well.
